特殊奥林匹克运动会

缘起

2006 年 7 月接到我的朋友香港凤凰卫视常务总裁王纪言的电话，请我做领队带领几个凤凰的摄影师去哈尔滨拍摄全国第四届特奥会，目的是要为 2007 年将在中国举办的国际特奥会出一本画册，只有不到七天的拍摄时间，而且特别说明是作为特奥会的义工拍摄。所以我能够亲身感受我们同在一个地球上另一部分人的生活、价值观。

特奥会简介

特殊奥林匹克运动（一下简称“特奥运动”）是专为智力残疾人建立的体育运动。据统计全球共有 1.7 亿智力残疾人，约占人类总数的 3 ％。中国有 1200 万智力残疾人。他们由于先天或后天的原因，大脑活动发生持续性障碍（即伴随终生，不能治愈），导致他们那学习能力低下和智能有限（ IQ 值低于 70 ），而且他们的适应性行为值也落后于健全人，这一特殊群体统称为智力残疾人。国际特殊奥林匹克运动委员会，简称国际特奥会，是为全世界智力残疾儿童及成年人提供体育训练和比赛的组织。

特殊奥林匹克运动的创始人是尤尼斯 . 肯尼迪 . 施莱佛女士。美国的约瑟夫 . 肯尼迪夫妇生有 9 个子女，其中长女即前总统约翰 . 肯尼迪的胞妹罗丝玛丽 . 肯尼迪，先天患有轻度智障并进行了脑手术。但是手术失败，她的智障程度加深，生活不能自理，长期住在维斯康星州“特殊孩子”医院。1957 年罗丝玛丽的妹妹尤尼斯 . 肯尼迪女士接管肯尼迪基金会，致力于为智力残疾人谋求公民权利的公益事业。1963 年，她组织 35 名智力残疾人参加了在自家后花园举行的以体育运动为内容的历时 3 个星期的夏令营活动，使包括罗丝玛丽在内的所有智力残疾人得到了从未有过的喜悦。尤尼斯 . 肯尼迪女士深受感动和启发，将这一活动逐年扩大并延续下来，终于发展成为一项国际活动，并得到了国际奥委会的正式承认。

1968 年 7 月，首届世界特奥运动会在美国芝加哥举行。之后尤尼斯坚持每两年组织一次特奥运动会，一直坚持了 20 年。到目前为止世界夏季特奥会已经举行了 11 届，世界冬季特奥会已举行了 8 届。

Special Olympics

Introduction

In July 2006, my friend Wang Jiyan, Executive President of Phoenix TV Station, called me to lead some photographers in Phoenix to photograph athletes in Forth National Special Olympic Game in Haerbin to prepare an album about 2007 World Special Olympics. In this situation, I went to the Special Olympics and I had the opportunity to work with the athletes and felt another life attitude which moved me and encouraged me.

A brief introduction to Special Olympics

Special Olympics is an international program of sports training and athletics games for more than a million of persons mentally disabled.

The mission of this organization is to promote the Olympic sports training and practice for persons who are mentally disabled, giving them continuous opportunities of psychic and physic development, encouraging them to demonstrate courage, capacity and always motivating them to be happy together with their families, their friends and the whole community.

In the world, 160 countries have adopted the Special Olympics program.

Special Olympics is officially born in 1968, in occasion of the first International Games held in Chicago, Illinois.

Special Olympics has been founded by Eunice Kennedy, in 1960 she organized a sports and games day exclusively for disabled people.

Mrs. Kennedy felt that these guys were more able in physical activities than experts thought.

The Special Olympics athletes oath is: Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.

The Special Olympics scope is to give, to persons with a mental deficiency, the possibility to become social useful inhabitant and then accepted, appreciated and respected by the whole community.

Special Olympics believes that competition between persons that have the same abilities is the best way to test their own athletics capabilities, their progress and to aim to grown.

Special Olympics spirit leaves beyond, as disability does, all races, nationalities, geographical limits, ages or religions.
