According to the project owner, China Writers Publishing House had signed to publish the book; the project later failed to reach publication after negotiations broke down. The complete design and print-ready manuscript already existed, but the book was never released. Hou Yimin was born in 1964 into an intellectual family in Harbin. After transferring from military service, he studied in the Photography Department of Beijing Film Academy, majoring in still photography. In the early 1980s, he spent six years photographing wild giant pandas in the primeval forests of Sichuan. As the first person to photograph wild giant pandas and one of China's earliest wildlife photographers, he was awarded the honor of Lifetime Photographer by the United Nations World Wildlife Fund. In 1990, he became a fellow of the Nature Group of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. His works received high praise from experts in the field of photography worldwide.
During the 29th Olympic Games in 2008, at the request of people from various circles, 13 works by Mr. Hou Yimin were exhibited in the Image Exhibition Hall of the 2008 Beijing International Press Center. The works not only fully reflected the natural state of the "national treasure," the giant panda, living in the wild, but also demonstrated the photographer's consummate artistic skill. They received favorable comments from Chinese and foreign photographers and photography enthusiasts.

In 1997, Chengdu, Sichuan, China held the International Panda Festival. In connection with this festival, China's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued a telephone IC-card set titled Telephone IC Card of International Panda Festival '97 Chengdu Sichuan China. The physical proof image shows a four-card set; all four card-face images use wild giant panda photographs by Hou Yimin.
According to the artist's archive, the set had a total face value of RMB 200, a recorded sale price of RMB 240, and an issue volume of approximately three million sets. During the festival, related promotional posters were posted on telephone booths throughout Chengdu. This evidence shows Hou Yimin's wild-panda photographs entering state-issued telecommunications products and urban public communication, not only books, exhibitions, or press coverage.

In 1997, Chengdu, Sichuan, China held the International Panda Festival.
