《东方早报》曾用约一个月时间为《中国农民》编辑八个版面，最终专题未能刊出。
据艺术家档案口述，八个版面中的作品、文字和采访全部来自侯一民《中国农民》。编辑部主任还为这次未刊事件写下悼词式文章。六张原始图覆盖八个报纸版面，图像和编辑文字共同记录农民处境。

This large group portrait work was made for the Chinese Peasants project. It brings together peasant figures, labor scenes, elderly people, children, burdens, walking, waiting, and details of survival gathered through long-term field photography, forming a visual testimony to the shared fate of Chinese peasants.

画面中的母亲怀抱双胞胎哺乳，直面镜头。贫困、母性、家庭责任和农村劳动力外流在同一张图像中被压缩到极高强度。 The mother nurses twins while looking directly into the camera. Poverty, motherhood, family responsibility, and rural labor migration are compressed into one intense image.

农民的话：“我丈夫在北京建筑队找了个活，但是一年了一分钱都没有挣到，还欠了工头一笔食宿费。他连给我打电话的钱都没有。他病了想回家，可是我也没有钱寄给他……”
Words of the peasant: "My husband found work with a construction crew in Beijing, but after a whole year he has not earned a single cent. Instead, he owes the contractor money for food and lodging. He does not even have money to call me. He has fallen ill and wants to come home, but I have no money to send him..."
档案同时写到：在中国农村，有一个特殊的群体是贫困的母亲们。她们很多人生活在极度贫困中，食物匮乏，没有必要的教育和医疗保障；很多人是文盲，身体也不好。为了子女和家庭，她们忍受病痛、贫困和沉重劳作。
The archive also records that in rural China there is a special group: impoverished mothers. Many live in extreme poverty, short of food and without basic education or medical protection; many are illiterate and in poor health. For their children and families, they endure illness, poverty, and heavy labor.
作品传播和捐赠故事Publication, circulation, and donation story
这幅抱着双胞胎的农民母亲大特写，被作为《中国农民》艺术作品的代表作之一。作品获得当年非突发新闻摄影奖，并被《人民摄影报》在头版整版刊登。
This large close-up portrait of a peasant mother holding twins is one of the representative works of Chinese Peasants. The photograph won the Non-Spot News Photography Award that year and was published across the full front page of People's Photography News.
刊登后，《人民摄影报》发起全国寻找这位母亲的行动，后来找到了她，并举行捐赠仪式。许多读者给她捐钱，人民日报、人民摄影报又去找到她，把读者捐赠的钱送到她手里。这个完整故事应当和作品放在一起看。
After publication, People's Photography News launched a nationwide search for this mother. She was later found, and a donation ceremony was held. Many readers donated money to her. People's Daily and People's Photography News then found her again and delivered the readers' donations to her. This full story should be read together with the work.

英文档案首页写明：这组作品来自侯一民八年深入接触中国乡村基层农民生活，揭示中国 9 亿农民的典型生存状态；项目目标包括呈现当代中国农民真实生活、在国内外举办展览、唤起社会平等和消除贫困意识，并设立支持农村儿童健康与基础教育的基金。 The old English home page states that the series came from Hou Yimin's eight years of close contact with grassroots peasant life in the Chinese countryside, revealing the typical living status of 900 million Chinese peasants. Its stated aims included presenting contemporary peasants' real life, holding exhibitions at home and abroad, raising awareness of social equality and poverty elimination, and founding a fund for rural children's health and elementary education.
“1997-2006：十年见证中国农民”

从 1997 年 6 月开始，侯一民进入四川、重庆等地多个县市，完成大规模胶片拍摄和录音访谈。图像与声音并行，使专题不只是视觉记录，也是一份社会史档案。 Beginning in June 1997, Hou Yimin worked across counties and cities including Sichuan and Chongqing, producing a large body of film photographs and recorded interviews.
